Bust the myths & confirm the facts about DAB+

It's time to present facts and myths about digital radio about DAB+.
We present the facts and myths.
  1. ORF Head of Radio Monika Eigensperger said that DAB+ is clearly a "Transition Technology": "Nowhere in Europe is it a resounding success. In Great Britain, the use is declining...".
    Result: Myth
    Fact #1: DAB+ is a "Permanent Technology" but not "Transition Technology"!!!
    Fact #2: In many European countries DAB+ is increasing, for example in Poland per Radio Track by Kantar MillwardBrown in 2016 was 0.0% and in 2017 was 0.1%, while in Switzerland use of DAB+ in autumn 2016 was 26% and in autumn 2017 was 34%.
  2. DAB+ is the more expensive technology than analogue FM radio and IP radio.
    Result: Myth
    Fact: DAB+ is the cheapest technology due to recent new low cost solutions. Any other digital radio technologies including IP radio and analogue AM/FM radio are expensive technologies.
  3. Mobile broadband inc. LTE Broadcast via 5G for radio is paid and very expensive to listen and to implement.
    Result: Fact
  4. Hybrid radio reduces data transmission costs for listening.
    Result: Fact
  5. Analogue FM radio will never shutdown in Europe.
    Result: Myth
    Fact #1: In Norway analogue FM radio has been closed for national and some local radio stations in 2017 but some local radio stations that broadcasts on analogue FM radio can be broadcasted until 31st December 2021.
    Fact #2: Swiss OFCOM announced that analogue FM radio will be closed down in 2020-2024 period.
    Fact #3: Danish government announced that analogue FM radio will be closed in 2021 or earlier if digital radio listenership will reach 50%.
  6. Public Realitions Director at Bauer Media Poland Maciej Brzozowski claimed that DAB+ has no future.
    Result: Myth
    Fact: DAB+ has a future.
  7. Eurozet CEO Andrzej MatuszyƄski claimed that digitalization of terrestrial radio may cause destabilization of the radio market, in particular in the field of finance.
    Result: Myth
    Fact: For example, the cost of one of the radio stations before simulcast of FM & DAB+ would be yearly on €5.6M. Before digital switchover would be yearly on €7.2M and after that would be lower than before simulcast of FM & DAB+ due to multiplexing technology.
