Previously on part 3 was about availability of BBC Radio on analogue FM radio. On this part will be about availability of non-BBC radio stations, especially commercials on analogue FM radio. Will be groupped per NUTS regions in case of England (inc. Isle of Man & Channel Islands) and per countires in case of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.

Previously on part 2 was about analogue AM radio frequencies. Now, it's time to focus on availability of BBC on analogue FM radio. Commercial radio stations is on part 4. On part 5 is about digital radio. Return to FM radio, in case of BBC Radio will be groupped by radio stations nationally and local & regional radio stations.

2018 - summaries; 2019 - expectations

2018 is coming to be closed and 2019 to be opened. It's time to summarise 2018 in the field of European radio (not only digital) with some selected, positive is marked as green, neutral normally, and negative as red. There will be also expectations in 2019.

Quick update #2: Small ARSO in South Tirol

Referring to the post about small AFMRSO in South Tirol there is updates. There is many changes after decision by RAS. Switch-off will be occured on 11 December 2018 as next 7 transmitters will be switched-off as mentioned on the post.

Radio Overview in Europe - SUPPLEMENT (Ep. 2) [FM radio in Switzerland]

Originally, from 1st January 2020 (Wednesday) until 31st December 2024 (Tuesday) in Switzerland will be occured ARSO. The exact date of the start of ARSO process with cantons and regions will be announced by OFCOM Switzerland in early 2019. One of them is Ordinance on Radio and Television (English: RTVO; German: RTVG; French/Italian: ORTV) with Annex 1 (on FM broadcasting). More about list by regions according to RTVO. In case of private broadcasters, regions 1-7 are assigned to Romandie, 8-16 to Bern-Midlands, 17 and 18 to Basel, 19-22 to Central Switzerland, 23-26 to Zurich, 27-31 to Eastern Switzerland and 32-34 to South-Eastern Switzerland and Ticino. In case of public broadcaster SRG SSR will be included by radio stations that are grouped by languages per radio stations.

On 17th May 2018 digital radio listenership has been reached 50%, ARSO will be occured after decision of government. On this post will be about AM radio frequencies on part 2. The list will be in order accordance to frequency. Shortwave broadcasting, BBC World Service (due to overnight service on some BBC Radio stations) & church radio stations are not included. On medium wave transmitters are not included which could take a lot of time. On part 3 & 4 will be about analogue FM radio and on part 5 about digital DAB radio.

I wish you that 2018 will bring great progresses in digital radio regulaions for Europe and the European countries (mainly for the European Unions) but also work on National Strategy in the field of digitisation of terrestrial radio, and DAB+ opposition of broadcaster (either public and private), government and regulators will eventually be broken.

Digital Radio Switch-Over in Norway in numbers

On 13 December 2017 at 11:11:11 during polar night in counties Finnmark and Troms as well as in Svalbard analogue FM radio switch-off (AFMRSO) process was completed for nationwide and some local radio stations. Most local radio stations will continue broadcasting on FM until 2022. However, NRK P1 continues analogue broadcasting but on AM band on long wave on 153 kHz/1959 m from Ingoey, Finnmark as necessary for fishermen working in the Barents Sea and on medium wave on 1485 kHz/202 m from Longyearbyen, Svalbard. It's time for "in numbers".

Reffering to the post about small AFMRSO in South Tirol there is updates. There is many changes after decision by RAS. First analogue FM transmitters was switched-off from 5th December 2017. Next will be occured in November 2018 as next transmitters are Graun i. Vinschgau, Ritten, Pragsertal, Ratschings, Welschnofen, Aberstueckl and Kurzras.

Why support the digitisation of terrestrial radio, what are the problems and how to break the barriers?

Due to analogue FM radio switch-off (ARSO, AFMRSO, AFMSO, or simply ASO) in Norway this year, after 13 December 2017 many local or community radio stations will continue broadcasting on FM for 5 years or until 31 December 2021. The next countries after Norway in queue are Denmark, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In case of Denmark, ARSO will be occured within 2 years after 50% of digital radio listenership (currently 33% in 1st half of 2017) will be reached. In case of Switzerland, ARSO will be held between 2020-2024. In case of the United Kingdom, ARSO may be decided after all criteria will be met such as 50% of digital radio listenership will be reached according to RAJAR and national DAB coverage must be comparable to FM radio, and local DAB coverage reaches of 90% for both households and all major roads.
